Rat mating rituals.

Well, beyond the amount of time it takes for a girl rat to escape her abode and find a boy rat, mating rituals are actually quite brief, but cute:

Boy is rudely awoken from slumber and placed in girl's cage.

    Boy goes back to sleep.

    Girl smells boy.

    Girl wiggles ears.

    Girl lifts tail.

    Girl nips boy.

    Girl wiggles ears.

    Boy wakes up.

    Girl prances madly about.

    Boy yawns.

    Girl prances madly about.

Boy eats girl's food and drinks girl's water.

    Girl prances madly about.

    Boy goes back to sleep.

    Girl prances madly about.

    Girl nips boy.

    Boy says "Oh alright already."

    Boy gets behind girl.

Boy looks like he's about to fall asleep.

    Boy gets swatted by tail.

    Boy does his deed.

    Boy goes back to sleep.

Girl, satisfied, goes in search of nonexistent food.

    Girl drinks water.

    Girl goes to sleep.

Disclaimer: There are many non-sarcastic accounts and tips on the web regarding rat care. This is not one of them. These are merely accounts of our experiences with rats, our perceptions of these experiences, where we've failed and where we've succeeded. These accounts are here for two purposes:

    1) To entertain.
    2) To help avoid repetition of mistakes
